India's best ideas have come where man was in communion with trees and rivers
and lakes, away from the crowds. The peace of the forest has helped the
intellectual evolution of man. The culture of the forest has fuelled the culture of
Indian society (Tagore 2011). The Mother Earth Discourse praxis is exemplified
in the case of Julia Butterfly Hill and her work, The Legacy of Luna: The Story of a
Tree, a Woman, and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods. As the title indicates,

While living in the tree, she also began her memoir, The Legacy of Luna: The
Story of a Tree, a Woman, and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods. After Hill's
grueling stint of 738 days in the great redwood, a legal agreement was finally
reached that provided for the preservation of Luna and all the trees within the
three acres surrounding it. In return, Hill had to pay $50,000 to Pacific Lumber.
Pacific Lumber then donated the money to a Humboldt State University, a local
college.

Whereas Blevins recounted feelings of connection and unity with the broader
Appalachian ecosystem, Hill would be more properly described as “animistic,” in
Taylor's terms: feeling kinship with individual beings in nature. See Julia Butterfly

the Redwoods (San Francisco: Harper San Francisco, 2000). 34. Bill Devall and
