Very low voting in Kilinochchi during early hours

Polling was extremely low in Kilinochchi in the early hours of the morning, reporters on the ground said.
The Kilinochchi Central College premises is being used as a large cluster booth but there was hardly any voting to talk of in the morning. By 11.00 am only 1 out of 1125 registered voters from the Dharmapuram division had voted, from Vattackachchi only 10 out 1663 had voted, according to officials the college.
Reporters said that people were not provided with adequate transport to travel to booths and many were seen waiting on the road. They said voters and officials also lacked clear information on voting procedures for the newly resettled. Compared to the south, and the rest of the country, there was almost no sign of a hard-fought election except for the polling booths, the officials and the few monitors moving about.
Meanwhile in Jaffna reports said that voting was around 40 per cent. There were reports of tyres being burnt on the road but observers said that police has moved quickly to remove them. In the early morning hours five explosions were heard in the Nallur area. They are suspected to be grenade explosions but no injuries were reported.
